At first like any relationship things were very good and the service was top notch. So I stayed…even after the spark was long gone.
Overtime the customer service was mediocre and the web hosting service became unreliable. My website was constantly down and most days the HostGator customer service department was not able to help me! The last straw was when I called them to try and find a backup for one of my sites and they told me to pay $25! I was done with them so I just ran for the hills and .

So why did I leave HostGator?
The reason I chose to sign up with SiteGround was because I got so tired of paying money only to have a web hosting company under deliver and sometimes not deliver at all on their promises. I just got soooo fed up and done with the inconsistency I experienced with HostGator and it was time to leave and so I did.
Why SiteGround and not BlueHost?
So many popular bloggers promote BlueHost as a good place to self host your WordPress blog while that may have been true in the past,- as of recent I have been going through reviews that say otherwise. See the thing is Bluehost was bought by another company and from the reviews I have seen so far their customer service and their uptime has gone down.
Not to knock anybody down but I find that many people are promoting BlueHost because of the higher affiliate commissions. This is why its very important for you to do your research before you buy anything! SiteGround pays less commissions to their affiliates but I am so happy to let you know about this great company. It’s not my style to recommend something just for the commissions! I really did my research on them and that is why I decided to switch to SiteGround.
- They are fast
- They are safe
- Their customer support is waaaay better
I am so excited to be on this blogging journey with SiteGround all I can say at this time is that their customer service is top notch (they even transferred my website from HostGator to SiteGround for free!). Moral of the story is, if something is not working for you it’s okay to move on. A reliable web hosting company is a must if you want to become a successful blogger. In addition to investing in blogging courses, leaving HostGator is one of the BEST decisions I made for my blog in 2018. If you are looking to grow your blog and you want to make money with your blog, you can start your blog on SiteGround for as low as $3.95/month.
