My skin started breaking out when I was 18 years old and going away to college for the very first time (imagine that).
I skipped teenage acne and I was now dealing with adult acne. This really SUCKED!
Don’t get me wrong, my acne was not cystic or very severe but it was acne nonetheless.
The breakouts I had on my face were enough to get me very self conscious and a bit depressed.
Looking back now, I realize that my adult acne was both cosmetic and hormonal.
Is Makeup Connected to Acne Breakouts?
I had no business wearing makeup as a college freshman. I was very uneducated on the right kinds of makeup for my skin type, cosmetic ingredients that can cause breakouts etc.
I didn’t even know what a proper toner and cleanser were! My method of cleaning my face was to use soap and a towel to dry my face.
I had no clue how to properly remove my makeup. As a result, my skin started to breakout really badly.
Then I started Over-cleansing & Experimenting…
I remember using harsh and abrasive scrubs to try and get rid of the acne.
There were times when I would wash my face more than twice a day!
Washing my face multiple times a day actually made me breakout more. My face also got very oily.
Store bought cleansers had such bad fillers and chemicals and they made my skin worse.
I tried Proactive and it severely DRIED out my skin and caused me to break out badly.
My skin looked a hot mess!
My self esteem was at an all time low and to compensate, I started caking on heavy foundation and powder.
These days, my skin rarely brakes out.
I only break out a week before or a few days after that time of the month. -Even then, I usually get one or two pimples that go away within days.
My skin has really improved since I started making and using homemade acne face masks.
The texture of my skin is better, and the breakouts have all but disappeared. I apply this DIY acne face mask every week (usually on the weekends).
The DIY Acne mask I am going to show you today is has really helped me to prevent and get rid of my acne. – Best of all, it’s natural!
I wanted to share this with you and I hope that it works as well for you as it does for me.

What You Will Need
Aztec Secret Healing Clay Deep Pore Cleansing ( You can find it here )
Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar ( with the mother ). Find it here
Baking soda ( over here )
Turmeric powder ( find it here )
A plastic spoon
Plastic or glass plate/container ( I found a really cute face mask mixing kit here )
**DO NOT use stainless steel utensils when making this mask! Use only plastic and glass.
Mask Making Instructions
1 Tsp Aztec Healing Clay
1 Tsp Baking Soda
1 Tsp Turmeric Powder
1 Tsp Apple Cider Vinegar ( enough to make a paste)
*Mix all the ingredients inside a plastic or glass surface. Using metal utensils during this process is a no no. It reacts with the baking soda and bentonite, this reduces its effectiveness.
1. Mix the dry ingredients first. In a plastic/glass plate, mix Aztec Healing Clay, Turmeric powder, and Baking soda.
2. Add the apple cider vinegar slowly using a plastic teaspoon. You want to make sure that the mixture does not become runny. The mask needs to be consistent enough to stick to your face and not run into your eyes (comprende?).
3. Use the plastic spoon and mix the ingredients together. You want it to be the consistency of thick pancake batter.
4. On a clean dry face, apply the turmeric mask with a clean flat face brush to avoid the Turmeric from staining your fingers. Leave the mask on your face for 15-20 minutes.
5. Wash your face with warm/tepid water. To dry my face, I use paper towels and I NEVER use regular cloth towels because face cloths can transfer bacteria and cause breakouts!
6. Apply your favorite moisturizer!
Do this for at least one week if your skin is actively breaking out and you should see an improvement.
Apply this mask once a week to detoxify your skin as part of your skincare routine.
The DIY Tumeric natural acne treatment mask is great for problem skin.
Go ahead and try it.
