Breakouts suck and that’s a fact . My skin started breaking out when I went away to college for the very first time (imagine that). I had skipped teenage acne and instead had to deal with adult acne! Don’t get me wrong, my acne was not cystic or severe. However, the breakouts I had on my face were enough to get me down. Looking back now, I can say that my adult acne was both cosmetic and hormonal.
I had no business wearing makeup as a college freshman. Why? I was very uneducated on the subject. I didn’t even know what a proper toner and cleanser were! My method of cleaning my face was to use soap and a towel to dry my face. I had no clue how to properly remove my makeup. As a result, my skin started to breakout bad.
I remember using harsh and abrasive scrubs to try and get rid of the acne. There were times when I would wash my face more than twice a day! Washing my face multiple times a day actually made me breakout more. Store bought cleansers had such bad fillers and chemicals and they made my skin worse. I tried Proactive and it severely dried out my skin and caused me to break out badly. My skin looked a hot mess! My self esteem was at an all time low. To compensate, I caked on heavy foundation.
These days, my skin rarely brakes out. I only break out a week before or a few days after my time of the month. Even then, I usually get a zit or two. This zit oftentimes makes itself right at home on the lower part of my face (usually on my lower cheek).
My skin has really improved since I started making and using homemade acne face masks. The texture is better, and the breakouts have all but disappeared. I apply this DIY acne face mask every week and usually on the weekends.
This mask has really helped me to prevent and get rid of my acne. – Best of all, it’s natural! I wanted to share this with you and I hope that it works as well for you as it does for me.
Ok, let’s get started!

What You Will Need
Aztec Secret Healing Clay Deep Pore Cleansing ( You can find it here )
Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar ( with the mother ). Find it here
Baking soda ( over here )
Turmeric powder ( find it here )
A plastic spoon
Plastic or glass plate/container ( DO NOT use metal! )
Mask Making Instructions
1 Tsp Aztec Healing Clay
1 Tsp Baking Soda
1 Tsp Turmeric Powder
1 Tsp Apple Cider Vinegar ( enough to make a paste)
*Mix all the ingredients inside a plastic or glass surface. Using metal utensils during this process is a no no. It reacts with the baking soda and bentonite, this reduces its effectiveness.
1. Mix the dry ingredients first. In a plastic/glass plate, mix Aztec Healing Clay, Turmeric powder, and Baking soda.
2. Add the apple cider vinegar slowly using a plastic teaspoon. You want to make sure that the mixture does not become runny. The mask needs to be consistent enough to stick to your face and not run into your eyes (comprende?).
3. Use the plastic spoon and mix the ingredients together. You want it to be the consistency of thick pancake batter.
4. Wash and dry your face (I never use cloth towels only air dry or paper towels). Apply the mask with a clean flat makeup brush that you do not use. The Turmeric will stain your hands and fingers if you just apply it with your bare hands. To apply the mask, I use a flat fan brush to avoid this.
Leave the mask on your face for 15-20 minutes. Rinse your face with tepid/warm water. Dry your face and apply your favorite moisturizer. I use paper towels to dry my face. I never use regular cloth towels on my face as I find they can transfer bacteria and cause me to breakout.
That’s it! Do this for at least one week if your skin is actively breaking out and you should see an improvement. Apply this mask once a week to detoxify your skin as part of your skincare routine.
